How to Get to Akagera National Park; Akagera national park is the home of Rwanda’s big five animals and a number of attractions that will make your Rwanda tour memorable. It is important to remember that the park is 98 kilometers from Kigali city and this will enable you to reach in the shortest time possible of 2 hours and 30 minutes without any complications.

BY AIR: For tourists traveling from countries outside Rwanda, they can access the country by air with different flights that fly in the Kigali international airport and also Rwandair operates in a number of given European countries and many more. After landing at the Kigali international airport, you will be picked by a representative of your tour company who will then drive you to akagera national park. From the Kigali international you will go through different towns to reach the park, for instance, Rwamagana, Kayonza, Kabarondo town from there you will head to Rwinkwanvu town which is nearest to the park which will take you only a few minutes.

BY ROAD: By road, tourists can access the park from the neighboring countries by using the borders from different countries for instance in Uganda you can use the cyanika border which links Uganda to Rwanda. From Tanzania you can access the country by using the Rusumo border and from Congo, you can access Rwanda by using the Goma town the same route used to access Virunga National Park. Therefore you can use visit Virunga National Park and visit the Senkwenkwe gorilla orphanage or participate in gorilla trekking where you will visit one of the Congo gorilla families and then, later on, visit Akagera national park and carry out the game drives where you would see the big five animals, participate in the boat cruise on lake Ihema and many more other attractions. Although using the borders might take a long time to reach the Park, they offer amazing views to make your tour in Rwanda memorable.
