1 Day Stone Town Tour

Stone Town also known as mji Mkongwe is one of the oldest towns and trade centers in Zanzibar known for its rich history, architecture, culture, and street foods that were influenced by the Arabs, Indians, Persians, and Europeans.

During your 1 day stone town tour, you will get to visit a number of destinations like the slave market where are number of slaves were sold to a number of rich merchants to be sold to France, Europe, and America to work on plantations. You will also get to visit the old fort also known as the Ngome Kongwe which was built by the Arabs between the 17th and 18th centuries and was first used by the Portuguese and the Arabs as a fort. Today the fort is used as a cultural center. While going through the stone town, don’t visit the Fred Mercury House which was a famous British singer where Mercury spent his childhood. When you visit the house you will get an insight into his life through pictures and the items in the house making it a must to be visited on your safari. Still in the town, you will get to visit the Colorful market where you will get to buy a number of spices, a number of organic fruits, vegetables, and local fabrics. After the safari experience, you will then have lunch at one of the restaurants or get to have some street food which will mark the end of your safari experience.
