2 days Tchegera island safari : While visiting Virunga national park in Congo a park famous for the mountain gorillas in Congo and mount Nyiragongo which has the world’s largest lava lake that can be seen on the summit of the mountain. Over the years Virunga national park has been famous for its cheap gorilla trekking in Virunga national park where you can observe the behavior of the primates in the wild. However, with the numerous visits to the park a number of people have discovered a number of rewarding attractions like the Tchegera Island where you will get to participate in a number of activities as you enjoy the memorable views of the Tchegera island a u shaped island located in the northern side of lake kivu. In this two days’ safari you will have the chance to explore more about the wildlife at the island as you take part in a number of tourism activities on the Tchegera Island.

Day 1: Pick up from Goma and transfer to Tchegera Island

In Goma, very early in the morning, you will be picked at the Grande Barrier by 10am to meet your guide. Thereafter, you cross the lake to connect to Tchegera Island which is a one of a kind island in the heart of Lake Kivu. This is the best place known for relaxation after hiking the volcano. Cross to the island on a 15 minutes boat ride from Goma harbor. Tchegera Island is a collapsed volcanic caldera located in the middle of Lake Kivu. Relax at the island with great views of the two active volcanos – Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira. Spend a night there; meals will be served at the camp too. If interested, optional activities include; bushwalk and birding which will give you the chance to watch a number of Albertine endemic bird species like and numerous water birds like; White-breasted Cormorants, Pied Kingfishers, Osprey, Double-tooth Barbet, Yellow-bellied Waxbill, Familiar Chat, Brown-throated Wattle-eye and Spot-flanked Barbet, primates like the blue monkey, for a memorable safari. Day 2: Tchegera Island – Transfer to Goma

After your early morning breakfast at the island, you will spend some time which is your last time for your 2 days Tchegera island safari before you take the boat to return to Goma and depending on your flight, transfer to Goma or drop off location you will advise which marks the end of your safari.
