Day 2: Morning Boat Excursion on Lake Ihema and explore other lakes in Akagera.

After an early breakfast, your adventure begins with a boat ride on Lake Ihema, which is particularly rewarding for witnessing enormous numbers of hippos, massive Nile crocodiles, and other birds. Birdwatchers are likely to encounter African Fish Eagles, Open-bill Storks, African Jacanas, Goliath Herons, Papyrus Gonolek, and a variety of other species.

Following the boat ride, you will continue your investigation of the lakes Kivumba, Hago, Mihindi, and Rwanyakazinga.

Optional activity: If you are interested in conservation, we recommend taking a Behind the Scenes trip to learn about the conservation projects in Akagera National Park. It entails meeting persons with ties to the park’s administration. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the lion, black rhino, and elephant reintroduction projects. You will also meet the management staff in charge of the park.
