Detailed Itinerary of the 6 Days Akagera National Park and Primate Safari in Rwanda

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park and Ihema Boat Cruise. 

On day 1 of the 6 Days Akagera National Park and Primate Safari in Rwanda, you will be met by your driver guide at your agreed location in Kigali to transfer to Akagera National Park where you will arrive in time to participate in the afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see game like hippopotamuses, Crocodiles and many bird species like the endangered shoe bill stork, African Kingfishers catching their prey from the Lake that live around the lake and the surrounding swamps.  Transfer to your pack for dinner and overnight stay at Karenge bush camp(budget) Akagera game lodge (mid-range)

Day 2: Full day game drive and transfer to Kigali. 

Rise up early and go for a game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals like the herbivores, the big five animals in Rwanda which rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill. After the game drive, return to connect with your driver guide to embark on your transfer back to Kigali. If you didn’t have a city tour on the first day, you may have it on this day before you are dropped off in Kigali or at the airport as you may advise.

DAY 3: Transfer To Nyungwe Forest National Park

In the morning, you will be picked by the driver from your hotel in Kigali and drive southwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will have a stop over in Butare, where you will visit the National Museum of Rwanda and the king’s palace in Nyanza with lunch en route. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Visitor Centre (budget )/ Nyungwe Top Hill View Hotel (mid-range)

DAY 4: Chimpanzee Tracking

Enjoy breakfast and go for a briefing about the endangered chimpanzees before entering the forest in search of the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are much easier to spot as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda usually takes about 3 hours. To find them, spend an hour taking pictures and videos.  You will then return to your hotel to freshen up, have lunch check out then embark on a 5 hours drive back to Kigali city for dinner and an overnight stay at Hotel des Mille Collines.

 DAY 5: Transfer To Volcanoes National Park

After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will then make your way to Volcanoes National Park. reaching in time to participate in the ibyi’wacu cultural tour. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel muhabura(budget) Da Vinci lodge (mid-range)

 DAY  6: Gorilla Trekking Experience In Rwanda

Wake up in the morning and with your packed lunch, make your way to the park. when you reach the park, participate in the briefing session on the rules and regulations for gorilla trekking in Rwanda, and after get ready and set off for the trek. This brief is done at 7 am. You are given guidelines during this brief before you are allowed to start the trek. This gorilla trek can take to about 2 hours to half a day as it’s unpredictable. When you finally find the gorillas, you will have to maintain a 7 meter distance and you are allowed one hour to admire and take photos of the gorillas. After the trek, you will have lunch and be taken back to your hotel as the night before to relax and reminisce on the experience. After your gorilla trekking in Rwanda, and taking pictures of the species, you will then make your way back to Kigali city. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Des Mille Collines.
