Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park with Afternoon Boat Ride on Lake Ihema.
After a leisurely breakfast at your Kigali hotel, you depart for Akagera National Park.
In the north-east of Rwanda, Akagera National Park encompasses 2500 km2 of savannah west of the Kagera River. The park is home to a diverse range of animals, including over 500 distinct bird species. Elephant and buffalo herds emerge from the forest to drink at the lakes, and you may come across a leopard, a spotted hyena, or perhaps a lion. Giraffe and zebra roam the savannah, and the park is home to over a dozen different varieties of antelope.
You will have lunch and then proceed on a boat excursion along the Akagera River in search of water-loving wildlife such as hippos. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Full Day Game Drive- Akagera National Park
On the 2nd day of your 4 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Big Cats Safari, After breakfast, you will embark on a game drive in the park to look for animals. During your game drive in Akagera National Park‘s Savannah grassland, keep an eye out for creatures such as Lions, Leopards, elephants, antelopes, and many more. Dinner and overnight at your lodge same as previous night.
Day 3: Transfer from Akagera National Park to Kigali then Drive to Musanze
After breakfast, about 10 a.m., you will wave farewell to Akagera National Park and return to Kigali. You will be able to visit the Genocide Memorial Centre before having lunch and traveling to the north to Parc des National (Volcanoes National Park), which is located 80 kilometers from Kigali and takes around two hours to reach. In Kigali, get a chance to pay a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial which is the ultimate resting place for more than 250,000 Tutsi Genocide victims.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Transfer Back to Kigali.
Get up early for an earlier breakfast and prepare to leave your resort at 6:30 a.m. for Gorilla Trekking. We go to the park headquarters, where we are assigned guides and briefed before entering the jungle. We will traverse one of Rwanda’s ten habituated gorilla families, and only eight individuals will be permitted to trek each gorilla family.
Travel into the jungle with trained ranger guides in search of Mountain Gorillas. The time spent searching for these giant apes’ spans from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location and activity of the gorillas, since their domain can span up to 40 kilometers. Park rangers and guides will clear the path and accompany you as you travel through the forest.
Once you’ve found a Gorilla group, you’ll spend an hour with them as they travel, feed, play, and rest. Getting up and personal with mountain gorillas is one of the most incredible experiences you will ever have.
Long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, hiking boots or sports shoes, gaiters, and a rain jacket are required. After the gorilla expedition, proceed to Kigali Airport for your return trip home. Please keep in mind that your flight out of Kigali should depart after 10:00 p.m.
