DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park and Ihema Boat Cruise
On day 1 of the 7 days Nyungwe, Volcanoes and Akagera National Park Safari, you will be met by your driver guide at your agreed location in Kigali to transfer to Akagera National Park where you will arrive in time to participate in a short game drive as you make your way to the hotel for lunch. later in the afternoon participate boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see game like hippopotamuses and crocodiles, and many bird species like the endangered shoe bill stork, and African Kingfishers catching their prey from the Lake that live around the lake and the surrounding swamps. Transfer to your pack for dinner and overnight stay at Karenge bush camp(budget) Akagera game lodge (mid-range)
Day 2: full-day game drive and transfer to Kigali.
Rise up early and go for a game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals like the herbivores, the big five animals in Rwanda which rise early to graze, and predators looking for their early morning kill. After the game drive, return to connect with your driver guide to embark on your transfer back to Kigali to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay at hotel des Mille Collines.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
You will be met by your driver guide at your agreed location in Kigali city to transfer to Volcanoes National Park where you will arrive in time to participate in Ibyi’wacu cultural village tour. Have a guided walk around the village at the different sites that exhibit the different aspects of the people of at the village to have an insight into the interesting features of the culture of the people of Rwanda. By visiting ibyiwacu cultural village get to see a medicine man that is mixing a number of herbs that were used to cure a number of diseases like bareness and impotence, stomach upsets, fever, and many more. If you’re interested, you can also get involved in mixing the herbs which will give you an authentic experience. After the experience head to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay. Day 4: Gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park
Gorilla Trekking: Have a light breakfast grab your packed lunches and set out to the park headquarters at 7 am to get the morning brief before your trek on what to expect, the do’s and don’ts, and also get a chance to book your porter and all the hiking gear you may need. Set out into the forest in search of the gorillas. Trek with the rangers for about 2 to 7 hours according to the location of the gorillas. Once you meet these endangered animals, you will be allowed 1 hour to enjoy their presence and it is in this magical hour that you get to take photos and study the lifestyles of the mountain gorillas in their families as they go about their daily routines. Connect back to your accommodation for a late lunch and spend the evening at leisure. You may take on an optional community visit or cultural tour if you are feeling energetic. Get back to the lodge before the sun sets and have dinner and overnight as the night before.
DAY 5: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will drive southwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will have a stopover in Butare, where you will visit the National Museum of Rwanda, and the king’s palace in Nyanza with lunch en route. After the safari experience, make your way to the park and check in your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Hill Top View Hotel.
Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk.
Enjoy breakfast and go for a briefing about the endangered chimpanzees before entering the forest in search of the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are much easier to spot as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimpanzee tracking usually takes about 3 hours. To find them, spend an hour while taking pictures and videos. You will then return to your hotel to freshen up, have lunch then check out, and later in the afternoon participate in After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk-a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you and thereafter connect to your accommodation to spend the evening at leisure.
Day 7: Transfer back to Kigali
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will embark on your journey back to Kigali city where if time allows, you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial museum and later transfer to the airport for your onward flight or dropped at your hotel in Kigali.
